London Eye

The London Eye is a giant ferris wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames in London. The entire structure of the London Eye is 135 metres tall! (Which is about 14 double decker buses!) The London Eye is the most popular paid tourist attraction within the United Kingdom and is visited by over 3.5million people each year! It was built in 1999 and is the worlds tallest wheel! The wheel moves around slowly, allowing visitors to see the wonderful sights of London and it takes around 30 minutes to go full circle around the wheel!
Big Ben

Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. The clock tower holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower. It celebrated its 153th anniversary in May this year (2012). The tower was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols (important) of both London and England. Big Ben is famous, like the Eiffel Tower is famous in Paris!
Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge was built between 1886 and 1894 taking 8 years to complete! Tower Bridge is a suspension bridge in London over the River Thames. It is very close to the Tower of London, from which it takes its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London, featuring in many films over the years! Tower Bridge is opened throughout the day to let tall boats through, however these need to be booked in advance so traffic and pedestrians can be stopped!
Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British Monarch (The Queen). The palace is a setting for English state occasion and royal gatherings/parties. Buckingham Palace was originally built in 1705 for the Duke of Buckingham and had been privately owned for at least 150 years. Buckingham Palace is guarded by the 'Queens Guards' who are soldiers serving in the army who stand around grounds of the palace in their beautiful uniform (they also wear funny hats!).
